Georgia Medical Cannabis Oil Bill Passes House Committee
(APN) ATLANTA — Georgia’s medical cannabis bill is headed to the State House floor.
On February 23, 2015, the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee unanimously passed HB 1, Haleigh’s Hope Act.
“This is not an indication of a slippery slope but, in my mind, a compassionate reach to our citizens,” State Rep. Allen Peake (R – Macon), who authored the bill, said at the committee meeting.
The bill would decriminalize possession of medical cannabis oil for patients who suffer certain illnesses, have authorization, and who obtain the product from a state where its manufacture is legal.
Several amendments to the bill were discussed, and two were adopted.
An earlier version of the bill allowed for cannabis oil with a five percent THC level, but this had been changed in a more recent draft to three percent, in order to increase its chances of passing the full House.
The Committee approved an amendment to reinstate the five percent level.
Another amendment that passed limits the personal information that police can access when verifying a patient’s medical cannabis authorization.
An important amendment that failed would have reinstated illnesses that were included in an earlier version of the legislation, but were removed after law enforcement agencies expressed concern over the bill’s scope.
“While I’m supportive of including as many condition as possible, I think the list we have is the most expeditious one,” Committee Chairman Rich Golick (R – Smyrna) said.
The bill currently includes seizure disorders, Lou Gehrig’s disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, mitochondrial disease, and Crohn’s Disease.
Committee members discussed other details that will likely be included in amendments before the full House.
State Rep. Ed Setzler (R-Acworth) seems intent on amending the bill to give Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency oversight of medical cannabis in a manner similar to prescription drugs. But this did not pass as an amendment.
And several lawmakers discussed adding language to ensure that patients covered by the bill are allowed to use cannabis oil in hospitals and other medical facilities.
Patients who could benefit from medical cannabis attended the hearing with family members.
Miranda Sievert suffers from debilitating seizures as a result of her epilepsy. She and her mother moved to Colorado to access cannabis treatment, while her father and two brothers remain in Georgia. Both Sievert and her mother were present at the meeting.
“There are families who we are trying to bring back home,” Rep. Peake said.

It is a travesty that it took this long to vote on and pass HB1. Allowing the Georgia Sheriff’s Association to have ANY influence on legislative decsions regarding the health care of Georgians provides law enforcement the opportunity to practice medicine without a license. As a health care provider, I find this particularly offensive. Law enforcement are trained to enforce draconian cannabis laws, not decide who’s medical conditions are qualified or unqualified for the beneficial therapeutic effects of medicinal cannabis. It is unconscionable, unethical, and a crime against humanity to deny safe access to a nontoxic, efficacious, plant. It is incumbent upon our elected officials to make legislative decisions regarding the health care of their constituents based on evidence based clinical practice and research.
Georgia still has a long way to go, but at least we are moving in the right direction.

I’ve had annual mammograms since I was 40 years old. In February 2014, at age 58, I was told by the pathologists at my local imaging center that something didn’t look right on my mammogram: my scans were abnormal. My wife is a serious cancer patient, she been wracked with skin cancers for decades, having them frozen, cut, scraped and poisoned out of her as the only treatments. I used cannabis oil to cure my father’s brain cancer. My Story .
As a natural born skeptic, I spent countless time and energy researching all the available treatment options aside from what my oncologist recommended. I was DETERMINED to cure my cancer, and knew there was something out there after witnessing a number of people who not only survived, but thrived and went on to live fulfilling lives cancer-free. In addition to reading about Rick Simpson Oil, and watching the Run From the Cure video, I also spoke with people who had actually used the oil, and it was shocking to hear one after another how effective this medicine really was. I just couldn’t believe there was a cure out there and how wrong it was that this information is not being shared with the public!
Treatment Reginae:
I have a pretty big tolerance for marijuana, so I started off with a full grain of rice sized amount of oil instead of a half grain. I gradually increased the dosage every night until I reached a full gram each night. The standard protocol for Rick Simpson Oil is ingesting a total of 60 grams over the course of 90days which is 3 months, but I had 80 grams in total for safe measure. I used the excess as a topical skin care treatment, attacking the visible brown spots on my face and neck.
3 months later, my cancer was in full remission. Within 4 months, I am cancer-free and officially received a clean bill of health from my doctors. What they don’t know is that the majority of my treatment was using the Rick Simpson Oil. I did use some of the medication they prescribed, but it was in combination with the oil.

I am unable to post this in the Success Stories for whatever reason, so I posted here. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer on October 18, 2013. I was advised by my doctor that my only options were to get a prostatectomy or have radiation seeds implanted in my prostate or receive regular external beam radiation. I declined.
