Blue Dog Fundraising Plummets

Just three months after reporting record fundraising totals, the Blue Dog Political Action Committee disclosed three donations for all of September totaling $12,500, the smallest amount this year.

The conservative Blue Dog Democrats brought in $1.1 million during the first half of 2009, averaging $176,000 per month, and is more than the Blue Dogs brought in for all of 2003 and 2004.

The totals dropped to $27,000 for July, bounced back slightly in August, before falling to $12,500 in September.

The donations break down as follows: $5,000 from accounting and professional services giant Ernst & Young’s PAC, $2,500 from the Food Marketing Institute PAC, and $5,000 from the National Rifle Association of America Political Victory Fund.

Considering everyone was talking about (and to) the Blue Dogs this summer, the anemic fundraising numbers for September are quite surprising.
