(APN) ATLANTA — Ken Britt, a political operative and former Executive Director of the Alston & Bird law firm, is running for the State House District 56 seat, the seat currently held by State Rep. Kathy Ashe (D-Atlanta), who is retiring.

Britt served in leadership roles on the campaigns of Alex Wan for City Council District 6 and Joan Garder for Fulton County Commission District 6.

Britt served on the Victory 2010 Coordinated Campaign for the Democratic Party of Georgia.  He has donated money to numerous Democratic candidates and causes.

If elected, he would be the first openly homosexual man to be elected to the Legislature [Rep. Rashad Taylor, who is in a reelection battle with State Rep. Pat Gardner, came out of the closet after being elected].

Britt has a website, does it not discuss his positions on the issues or his platform.

APN has learned that a former elected official might be considering running for the seat as well, but a text message sent to that person was not immediately returned.
