Events: Mayoral, Council Candidate Forums
There are two forums taking place this evening in Atlanta: one for Atlanta City Council candidates and another for mayoral candidates.
At 6 p.m. at the IBEW Auditorium (501 Pulliam St. SW), the Georgia STAND-UP Alliance will ask council candidates where they stand on issues such as jobs, economic development, affordable housing, transportation, public safety, vacant and abandoned housing, and public land.
The Alliance released a platform on Aug. 21 that addresses many of these issues. The Alliance is hoping more candidates will back that platform tonight. Check back with Atlanta Progressive News this week for full coverage of this event and more about the Alliance platform.
Meanwhile, a group of transit groups are cosponsoring a mayoral forum at 6:30 p.m. at the Loudermilk Center (40 Courtland St. NE). Atlanta Business Chronicle writer Maria Saporta will moderate, asking candidates to share their thoughts on a balanced, sustainable transportation system for Atlanta and to weigh how transit affects Atlanta’s economic opportunities.
Sponsors of this event include Citizens For Progressive Transit, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, and pedestrian safety group PEDS.
