Archibong, Moore Stand Firm against Mayor Reed’s First Veto

Mayor Reed’s first veto was on a contract that went through City Utilities Committee, where he says his own staff members presented it to the Cmte for approval without going through the proper channels established in his office, in the executive branch.

He said that despite the fact that the contract looked fine, he said he had a problem with the process–with his own staff’s process–not with the Council’s process.

However, that has nothing to do with the Council.  They could’ve overridden the veto if they wanted to.  It didn’t make any sense.

What’s sad is the Council voted to sustain the veto, with only Councilmembers Natalyn Archibong (District 5) and Felicia Moore (District 9) voting no.  Absent were Cleta Winslow, Joyce Sheperd, and Michael Julian Bond.  This is so going in the scorecard.
