1075 Peachtree to Use Electric Vehicles
1075 Peachtree, a new office tower in the development at Peachtree and 12th in Midtown, has contracted with Thurso Power Systems, a South Carolina-based company, to provide two electric vehicles for use by its employees, according to a press release obtained by Atlanta Progressive News. The development is being spearheaded by the team of Daniel Corporation, Selig Enterprises, and Met Life Insurance.
Larry Stephens, VP of Development for the project team, said this amenity was in response to the requests of its tenants who have employees who wish to be pioneers of clean energy and clean air electric transportation, the press release stated. It is also in line with 1075 Peachtree’s LEED Silver building classification.
Brian Edens, CEO of Thurso Power Systems, explained the state of the electric vehicle industry, which is reemerging after the auto industry first “killed the electric car.” (See- related documentary, “Who killed the electric car?”)
“This industry is still in its infancy; just two years ago most people never heard the words electric vehicle or electric vehicle charging station spoken. With the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt coming out in model year 2011 and most other major auto manufacturers following suit in the 2012 model year, there is now quite a buzz. Thurso Power Systems gladly accepts the responsibility to insure those early adopter EV drivers can get from point A to point B with confidence that there will be charging options along the way. Initiatives like this one currently completed for 1075 Peachtree insures the electric vehicle is here to stay. Not to mention, electric vehicles will also allow our country to reduce its dependence on foreign oil, which is a huge national security issue. The leadership shown here by the project’s development team should be applauded.”
