WAND Pushes US Senate to Consider New START Treaty by Year-End
Georgia Women’s Action for New Directions is pushing for the US Senate to consider the new US-Russia START Treaty ratification by the end of the year during the remainder of the “lame duck” Session. Some activists worry it will be more difficult to pass it in the new US Senate next year which will have fewer Republicans and more Democrats. The Treaty needs at least 67 votes to pass.
WAND had lobbied US Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) to support the Treaty in Committee, and he did. US Sen. Jon Kyl (R-NV) has argued that the vote should be postponed until next year.
