Former U.S. ambassador and Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young is set to formally endorse State Sen. Kasim Reed for mayor on Wednesday at 10 a.m. during a joint press conference. The announcement follows the debut last week of a 60 second radio ad featuring Young.

During the event, Reed and Young are set to announce plans to hold a Youth Town Hall in September, a discussion that will be led by young people and focus on why young people join gangs, examine external pressures, and address possible solutions and alternatives.

“Ambassador Young is a person who I have admired for my entire adult life and that is why we are working together to hold a Youth Town Hall,” Reed said in a statement Wednesday. “Too many of our youth are at-risk of being recruited by gangs and beginning a life of crime, drugs, and violence. We have to give our young people a chance to succeed in life.”

Young’s endorsement announcement will take place at the John Wesley Dobbs Plaza at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Fort Street.
