State Sen. Vincent Fort has decided to stay in the State Senate for now, instead of pursuing a Council President race, a source familiar with the matter told Atlanta Progressive News.

In addition to wanting to continue to help local colleges by getting funds through the legislative process, Fort also wants to be there in the State Senate for the Congressional redistricting to be done based on the 2010 census.  As previously noted on this blog, Georgia is expected to gain 2 Congressional seats before the 2012 election.  Does this mean a Congressional run could be in the offing?

Fort did think he could win the race for Council President, the source said.
