First, Georgia Politics Unfiltered, now Atlanta Public Affairs. Wow. Another Atlanta political commentator closes shop.

My very first post on this blog was on January 7, 2005. It was a post about the lawsuit over the Druid Hills Golf Club and the Atlanta Human Relations Commission ordinance. It’s hard to believe that 4 years and 3 months have passed since I, out of frustration over the 2004 Presidential election and boredom at work, created a blog so I could post my views on local and national politics.

Well it has been interesting … but I’ve decided to to close Atlanta Public Affairs for good. You have to know when it is time to say goodbye and I’ve decided that now is a good time. My interests have certainly changed since I created this blog and I need to spend time pursuing other interests. More importantly, I just don’t have the time to spend to put out quality content anymore and I think that has shown, partiularly over the past year.

I also think that the medium has changed. Blogs have sort of evolved from covering a wide range of topics to now focusing on more narrow issues – think hyperlocal blogs like Dorablog or Decatur Metro. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the involvement of more traditional media in blogging has also changed the game from four years ago.

In the past four years I have had 864 posts, some good, some bad; some groundbreaking and some just silly (think my ongoing feud with Andre). The best have been when we challenged or exposed some of the nit wits of of Georgia politics (and although I’ve been accused of being a partisan, we’ve covered both parties). We even contributed, in a very small way, to taking down a Democratic Gubenatorial candidate and a candidate or two for the Georgia Legislature and/or Atlanta City Council.

Believe it or not, there weren’t many blogs out there covering Georgia politics, in particular, back in January 2005. There were really just a few that I latched onto at first, Joseph over at the now defunct Monotonous blog (now running Dorablog), Catherine, Mel, Bernita and the gang over at Blog for Democracy, Chris Huttman had a blog at the time (which became a campaign issue in his recent campaign with Jill Chambers), and Rusty of the also defunct Radical Georgia Moderate (you can find Rusty now here [rustytanton.com]). I got to know many of these folks well through the local blog community over the years and through podcasts. Many I call friends today. I’m sure I’m missing someone else.

I’m certainly not done with politics and I’m not done with blogging. I will return in some shape or form and I’ll continue to comment here and there throughout the blogosphere. So, gooodbye for now … there are plenty of others out there doing good work to keep you informed for the time being.
