BREAKING: Michael Julian Bond tells Atlanta Progressive News in an email that he’s running for Atlanta City Council-at-large seat 1, which is being vacated by Ceasar Mitchell. MJB promises more details soon.

Bond previously served as Councilman for District 3 for two terms and he is the son of civil rights leader, Julian Bond.

MJB did not immediately return a voice message seeking more information.

Mitchell is running for mayor amid speculation he may run for Council President Lisa Borders’s seat. Apparently, he’s waiting on Borders to make her decision whether to get back in the Mayoral race, before he decides whether to run for Mayor or Council Prez. The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported Borders would definitely be running and making an announcement on April 1; the AJC later noted she would not make an announcement on April 1.
