See “Food Inc.”
I highly recommend “Food Inc.,” a documentary film about the American food supply, and its domination by the agricultural-industrial complex. Monsanto, ADM and a handful of other heavily-subsidized companies have gained near-total control over the food most Americans eat, with catastrophic consequences for personal and public health, the environment and even our civil liberties. Incidentally, the film does not push vegetarianism — some of its heroes are small livestock farmers who are still raising and slaughtering pigs and chickens the old-fashioned way, and an organic yogurt company which is now selling its yogurt at Wal-Mart. Very thought-provoking, and getting a fair bit of media attention — NPR had a story Saturday morning on Weekend Edition. Also drawing a good audience for a documentary — it is into its third week at Landmark Midtown Art Cinema. I went to an afternoon showing, expecting I would be one of 2-3 people, but it was more like a couple of dozen.
“Film, Inc.” continues at Landmark Midtown, 9th & Monroe streets, at least thru Thursday. Call 678-495-1424 for showtimes.
