The Metro Atlanta Democratic Socialists of America hosted their 4th annual Frederick Douglass-Eugene V. Debs Dinner at Paschal’s Restaurant.

Kim Bobo, Executive Director of Interfaith Worker Justice, spoke about various forms of wage theft in her keynote address, including businesses not passing along tips to their workers when left on a credit card; not paying a minimum wage; not paying overtime; and not paying a last check.  Bobo gauged interest in whether audience members would like to set up a workers’ rights center in Atlanta or whether the City of Atlanta might set up a workers’ rights hotline or other enforcement mechanism.

Awards were presented to Walter Andrews, President of Communications Workers of America Local 3204; Anita Beaty, Executive Director of the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless; and Students and Workers in Solidarity, who have been fighting for cafeteria workers’ rights on Metro Atlanta campuses.
